The Georgia Animal Protection Act (OCGA § 4-11-1) makes it illegal to "intentionally abandon any domesticated animal upon public or private property or public right of way", and if we catch you we CAN prosecute! This is what we found at the shelter when we returned from our transport to Florida this afternoon. Someone trespassed into a fenced area, pulled out 2 of our dog traps, and left these guys. One of them had no water. Shelter personnel are available to receive animals Tu-Fr 8-6 and Sa 8-4. If there is some reason you absolutely MUST drop off an animal(s) after-hours, emergency calls should be directed to Thomas County E911 dispatch who will in turn contact one of our animal control officers. Please help us put a stop to this! Budget constraints being what they are, we simply cannot afford to staff the shelter 24/7.
