Position Title: Marketing and Communications Director
Reports to: Executive Director
Classification: Full-Time, Exempt
Location: Thomasville, GA
Pay Range: $40k-$48K annually
About the Organization:
Thomasville Humane is a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter serving Thomasville, Georgia, and the surrounding regions. Since 1970, our mission has been to ensure the humane treatment of animals through sheltering, adoption, education, and outreach. As a leader in animal welfare, we serve as a Supermentor Shelter in the Statewide Shelter Collaborative program with Best Friends Animal Society and Better Together Georgia, providing education and support to municipal shelters all over the state of Georgia. Thomasville Humane also maintains a municipal animal services contract with Brooks County, Georgia.
Position Summary:
The Marketing and Communications Director plays a mission-critical role in advancing Thomasville Humane’s visibility, engagement, and fundraising success. This position leads the development and execution of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that amplifies our brand, drives donor engagement, and inspires community action in support of our lifesaving work.
The Director will manage all external communications, curate compelling content, lead campaign design and execution, and serve as the public voice of the organization across social media, events, and media relations. This individual will also play a key role in organizational storytelling, graphic design, and outreach programming.
Core Responsibilities:
Marketing, Content, and Brand Management
Develop and implement marketing and communications strategies aligned with organizational goals.
Manage and grow Thomasville Humane’s social media presence across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.) through thoughtful, mission-driven content.
Create and maintain engaging visual and written content (including photography, graphics, and copywriting) that elevates the visibility of adoptable animals, events, programs, and fundraising campaigns.
Design marketing collateral including flyers, infographics, signage, presentations, donor materials, and volunteer training tools.
Maintain and update the organizational website to ensure accuracy, relevance, and strong SEO performance.
Manage the production and distribution of internal and external newsletters.
Fundraising & Campaign Development
Partner with the Leadership Team and Board of Directors to design and implement multi-channel fundraising campaigns that support donor acquisition, retention, and stewardship.
Collaborate on storytelling and case-for-support development for direct appeals, sponsorships, and special campaigns.
Evaluate analytics and performance metrics to optimize communication and fundraising efforts.
Community Engagement & Public Relations
Serve as the organization’s spokesperson for public events, media inquiries, and speaking engagements.
Coordinate and attend community outreach events including school visits, volunteer days, humane education programs, and off-site adoption events.
Build and maintain media relationships; write and distribute press releases as needed.
Develop partnerships with local businesses, schools, and civic groups to increase awareness and collaboration.
Outreach Program Support
Support volunteer and foster recruitment through engaging public presentations and targeted campaigns.
Represent the organization at community tabling events, career fairs, and public information sessions.
Assist in the planning and delivery of staff communications, including internal updates, new employee recognition, and procedural announcements.
Leadership and Internal Collaboration
Serve as a communications resource for the leadership team and support alignment across departments.
Lead roundtable discussions and collaborative initiatives to enhance program visibility and impact.
Provide training and coaching to staff on brand messaging and public speaking.
Report regularly on key metrics, progress toward goals, and campaign performance to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, nonprofit management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 3 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, or public engagement—preferably in a nonprofit or animal welfare setting.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage a wide variety of audiences.
Proficiency in graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) and social media management platforms.
Ability to capture and curate photography and video content that reflects our mission and values.
Strong project management skills; highly organized, deadline-driven, and creative.
Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, animal-centric environment with diverse community partners.
A passion for animal welfare and a commitment to Thomasville Humane’s mission.
Work Conditions:
Occasional evening and weekend hours required for community events.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for off-site events.
